Make simple map galleries with JetPhoto Studio 4.9.5

Here is a live demo of the embeded simple Google Map Gallery

Now your can download JetPhoto Studio version 4.9.5 beta (both Mac OS X version and Windows version) to make that.

In JetPhoto Studio version 4.9.5, addded a new option for making simple Google Map Galleries.

You should notice the new option "Show simple map without filmstrip (faster loading)" in the dialogbox when you are ready to generate the google map gallery. If you enabled this option, the filmstrip will not appear in the google map gallery page.

Using the simple Google Map Gallery, no filmstip shown, it will be flexible to place the map gallery widget on any web pages in any different layouts. You must find the convenience if you are a web designer using this feature to create your pages embedded with map galleries.

Maked the map gallery that doesn't contain a filmstrip to navigate photos. But you can still easily switch photo spots on the map with a dropdown menu instead.

And another benefit obtained due to the simple map gallery is the web page loading will be speeded up. Beacuse no thumbnail image on the filmstrip is needed to load while initializing the map gallery, so the web page will be light and be loaded faster.

Open KMZ in Google Earth, no image shown in balloons

Thanks users who reported this problem. Uses Google Earth 5.2.1.1329 or later versions to open the KMZ files generated by JetPhoto Studio on Windows. When need click the placemark icon to show the photo in a balloon, no image is there except a white box shown in the balloon. But all works perfectly to open the same KMZ files with older Google Earth versions on Windows and all versions on Mac OS X.

So far, we judge the problem is a bug in Google Earth. We are also tracking the bug fixing discussed on Google Earth’s online forum. Meanwhile, we suggest you should use an early Google Earth version instead to open your KMZ files.

Set the style of tracks and icons shown in Google Earth and Google Maps

JetPhoto Studio enables to link photos to Google Earth and Google Maps, also allows show GPS tracks on them.

In the dialog box to link photos on Google Earth, users can click button “Style…” to show a box to offer more options for setting the color, width and opacity of the track lines appear in Google Earth, also allow to set the photo marker as a camera icon or a small square icon ( same as Panoramio ).

In the dialog box to generate Google Map web galleries, users also can click button “Style…” to set the appearance style of track lines shown in Google Maps.

Set the parameters to import GPS tracks and locate photos

More parameters can be specified by users selves to import GPS tracks or locate photos with the tracks.
Two “Parameters…” menu commands can be found in GPS Logs window.

Unset photo locations in batches

This feature may be coming later, but it’s really available now :-)

If want to delete location tags (latitude, longitude, elevation and heading) in photo’s metadata, the user can edit the info list in the side panel of the album window, and clear the data fields one by one. Now a more efficient way is offered, just select photo thumbnails in the album window, and select menu command “GPS & Geotag” -> “Unset Photo Locations…”. GPS location metadata will be all removed from these selected photos in the batch mode.

Enhanced map view in JetPhoto Studio 4.8

In JetPhoto Studio version 4.8, you should find a new button added in the map view. The new tool allows users to zoom the map by dragging the mouse, and also can select photos in a given rectangle area on the map.

[step 1] Click the button, then you can drag on the map to draw a rectangle with red lines to mark the area where you would like to zoom.

[step 2] JetPhoto Studio will zoom the map as long as released the mouse button after dragging.

[step 3] At the same time, the photos in the selected rectangle will be highlighted. Then you can select “Thumbnail” view in the album window, where JetPhoto Studio has highlighted the matched photo thumbnails.

In this way, JetPhoto Studio provides a new efficient way to quickly pick photos that were geotagged in a given location on the map.

Error 50 raised while using WebSync

If you use the combination of a JetPhoto Studio on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and a JetPhoto Server Pro 2.x, it’s possible to catch an error while using WebSync to upload your albums to the web server. The error message says:

An error occurred while calling put_album_datalist on JetPhoto Server.
Error Code: 50

On Snow Leopard, the program isn’t able to ignore the null characters in your photo keywords and other metadata fields, this is the reason caused the error. Now you could download a update to fix the bug, please get a JetPhoto Studio v4.8.2 here .

Two convenient toolsare addedin version 4.7.2:

1) Copy filenames to the photo notes
Without JetPhoto Studio, the photo files are usually named as the photo titles. If you imported your titled files into JetPhoto albums, you may need a convenient way to transfer the photo titles from the file names to the photo notes shortly. Now you can just do that with an easy click, please choose menu item “Edit”->”Copy Filenames to Photo Notes…”

The file name is ‘Birthday Cake.JPG’.

After copying, now the photo note become ‘Birthday Cake’.

2) Rename files in batches with multiple modes
Choose menu item “Edit”->”Batch Rename Files…”, you can use the tool to change filenames in batches for the selected photos. The tool enables flexible renaming photo files as a series of uniform names with a same prefix (or/and a same suffix), and add an index number or a time string into each filename automatically. The program can also read the EXIF photo capture time tags and write them into the filenames. In this way, you can always easily sort your photo files by events or categories in any environment even without JetPhoto Studio.

What’s new in version 4.7?

Camera RAW files storage

The JetPhoto Studio v4.7 allows store camera raw files in album packages. The raw files can be Nikon NEF, Canon CR2 and more others. Users can select to copy or move external raw files into JetPhoto albums, and JetPhoto will always automatically create a JPEG copy for each imported raw file.

When browsing photos in JetPhoto albums, right-click (or control-click) a thumbnail, you can find two items in the context menu to reveal either the JPEG file or the RAW file for each photo.

Now, it’s possible to geotag raw files in JetPhoto Studio v4.7. After locating photos with GPS, you can continue to use EXIF Tools to write the GPS metadata (latitude, longitude, altertude) into either the photo RAW file or the JPEG copy.

Also important, a memory leak bug was fixed in this version. This bug caused failed importing raw files in batches.

Google Map Gallery - Select photos in a list

JetPhoto Studio v4.7 added a new optional feature in the Google Map gallery. A dropdown list can be shown in the map, and users can select items on the list to switch photos fast. Now there are three ways to navigate photos within Google Map gallery: clicking hot spots in the map, clicking thumbnails in the bottom bar and clicking a menu item in the list.

To edit list items is very easy, you can type them in photo notes directly. Normally, the list item only include two or three words, but sometimes the photo description is too long to show completely in the list. Therefore, the Google Map gallery will find the first line break in the photo description and only show the first line of the photo note as a list item (both a “return” and a <br> html tag can be accepted as a line break).

Enhanced Address Lookup (Reverse Geocoding)

The reverse geocoding is not only a “concept proof” in JetPhoto Studio v4.7. Address Lookup program is enhanced in this version. It became an easy-to-use feature to create photo descriptions and keywords automatically according to the locations where photos were taken.

You can show your photos in maps after locating them. However there is one more fun, use Address Lookup program that will connect Google Maps server and invoke the reverse geocoding services to convert the latitude/longitude data to a human-readable address. In a magic way, JetPhoto Studio will add photo notes and keywords automatically for your photos.

For example, I took a photo in Stanford University campus. The photo has been located at latitude N37.42718° and longitude W122.17033° in JetPhoto Studio. Then, Address Lookup program will work to add a photo note and three keywords for the photo automatically:

- Photo Note: Stanford Memorial Church, Stanford
- Keywords: Stanford, CA94305, USA

The new Address Lookup feature are available in both Windows version and Mac version of JetPhoto Studio v4.7 .

Export / Import Keywords

In JetPhoto Studio v4.7 for Mac, users can export keywords list to a text file, or restore the keywords list with importing a text file. The functionality brings an easy way to manage keywords presets. Now you can first prepare your favorite keywords presets in any text editor, and import them into your album anytime later.

Geotagging Assistant

We developed a Geotagging Assistant program and added it as a new feature in JetPhoto Studio v4.7 for Mac. Now users can geotag their photos step by step.The program will guide users to finish all steps with ease.

QuickLook Plugin for JetPhoto Album on Mac OS X 10.5/10.6

Google Map Gallery shown in a resizable window

A new version Google Map Gallery will be involved into both JetPhoto Studio and JetPhoto Server Pro. The new program will speed up the page loading. And the most important update is that the new Google Map Gallery layout is auto resizable to fit the container web browser window.† But the old version Google Map Gallery can be shown in a fixed rectangle frame only, the size is always 950 x 620 pixels. See a demo with a sizable window .

In the JetPhoto Studio v4.6, a couple of additional options are added to customize your Google Map Gallery, example: hide Info tab in photo balloon or show an overview map at bottom-right corner.

The new Google Map Gallery have been tested for the compatibility with Safari v3/v4, Firefox v3 Mac/Windows, IE v6/v7/v8 and and Google Chrome.

Snow Leopard compatibility testing

Apple released their new operation system, Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) today. We have tested JetPhoto Studio 4.5.2 for Mac with the latest beta version of Snow Leopard. The almost all features work properly on Snow Leopard, but also found some compatibility issues, for example: When using WebSync, an error occurred while calling put_album_datalist on JetPhoto Server (Error Code: 30).

The compatibility problems will be fixed in the next coming version 4.6. Before that, we need your helps also, please report your testing results if you find any problem while using JetPhoto Studio v4.5 on your Snow Leopard.

JetPhoto Mac application crashing while geotagging

In the recent weeks, we often get some feedback to report a problem of the JetPhoto Studio Mac application crashing while geotagging (locating photos with GPS tracks automatically). Now we have found this problem is caused due to a WebKit runtime error. The WebKit handles the google map view embedded in JetPhoto Studio.

Is your Safari version 4? Now we suggest you can still use a stable version 3 instead, or you need download a new JetPhoto Studio version 4.5.1 to fix this Safari 4 compatibility issue.

WebKit is the foundation of Safari, you updated your Safari, the WebKit will also be updated. The present version of JetPhoto Studio should work properly with Safari 3, but did find the application crashing with Safari 4.

If you now use Safari 4 on your Mac, please download a JetPhoto Studio version 4.5.1 .

Finding KMi

I am looking for kmi electro, our old friend who gave us lots of helps to make JetPhoto Studio French localizations. However I lost any connection to him since July last year when kmi translated JetPhoto Studio for Windows version 3.13 and told me he’d like to move to another place in France. I can’t get his responses through email or msn, and no information about him I can hear in the past months.

Camera Position and Camera Direction

JetPhoto Studio supports geotagging since its first release. How are the things progressed for the new version 4.5? Geotagging enables locating photos on maps, now the new JetPhoto Studio will support marking camera directions as well as camera positions for your photos.

Now more new digital cameras have built-in GPS units or the interface connecting to external GPS accessories. Some GPS units, like Nikon GP-1 and Solmeta N1, enable both camera position and camera direction recoding. Beside the GPS chipset, a direction sensor (electronic compass) is also assembed in the GPS unit. The camera position (latitude/longitude/altitude) and the camera direction (lens heading) will be saved in image EXIF tags automatically while taking a shot. JetPhoto Studio can import the photo files including all these tags.

Of course, you can also set the camera directions (lens headings) for your photos manually with JetPhoto Studio if you don’t have a compass-enabled GPS unit. In “Point photo location on map” window, you can just click the central target to begin the camera direction adjusting for any photo saved in your albums.

After that, the direction markers will appear in Geotag panel, Map view and all Google Map Galleries and Google Earth KML/KMZ files generated by JetPhoto Studio! Hope that will be a new toy you enjoy :-)

Other New Features in JetPhoto Studio version 4.5

- Address Lookup (reverse geocoding)
Add photo notes automatically by photo locations. This program works with Google Map Reverse Geocoding service, translates photo locations on the map into human-readable address and write them in photo notes.

- Flash Slideshow Timing Control
When you make Flash movies (standalone mode)† with your photos, the new program enables options to allow users to set the duration and interval for each slide while playing Flash slideshows.

(JetPhoto Studio v4.5 for Mac has been released June 1st, and the Windows version will come later.)

How to use JetPhoto to geotag iPhoto photo files?

iPhoto ‘09 has a new feature to place photos on maps, so now your can also use JetPhoto Studio to geotag your iPhoto photos with GPS. Here is a procedure to geotag photos with JetPhoto Studio for iPhoto :

1. Original JPEG files in iPhoto —> 2. GeoTagged JPEG files in JetPhoto —> 3. GeoTagged JPEG files in iPhoto

You should take steps as below:

A. import photos from iPhoto to JetPhoto Studio. You could click ‘Import from iPhoto’ icon in ‘Action’ tab panel …

(then jetphoto studio will make copies of all the imported files in a jetphoto album.)

B. located photos in JetPhoto Studio. The located photo has a “G” icon in its thumbnail.

(then the GPS info is saved in an xml file in your jetphoto album.)

C. write GPS info into JPEG files with clicking menu item “Merge GPS Metadata into JPEG…”.

(then the GPS info is saved in jpeg files in your jetphoto album.)

D. select the thumbnails of your located photos in JetPhoto Studio, and drag-and-drop them into iPhoto window. The photo files with GPS info will be imported into your iPhoto library.

(when export to iphoto, all these copies with GPS exif tags will be copied again to your iphoto library.)

A problem when works with Google Earth 5.0 beta

We have noticed that the KML generated from JetPhoto Studio or other application doesn’t not properly reference any images or other attachments in placemark balloons viewed in Google Earth v5.0. This is because those attached images are referenced with local file paths, and Google Earth version 5.0 strengthened the restrictions to access local resources.

If you use Google Earth v5.0 beta and saw your photos can’t be shown properly in the image balloons, you may try to figure out the problem with changing a setting in your Google Earth.

Open the Preferences in your Google Earth, select General tab, and enable option “Allow placemark balloons to access local files and personal data”.

If your JetPhoto Studio and Google Earth works on Mac, you should also download a JetPhoto Studio v4.2.

GeoTagging

New Terrian map is enabled for photo geotagging with Google Maps.

Now you can select a default map type for the generated Google Map web gallery.

And a new option is added to accept HTML tags in photo descriptions displayed in Google Map web gallery, example, that will enable to add hyperlinks in photo descriptions using <a> tags.

Left: edit the photo description with HTMLRight: show an image balloon with a link in Google Map gallery (click ’see details’ to pop up a new window for an external web page) .In this way, you can link not only photos but also more other web contents onto your Google Map galleries.

Photo Notes Editing

Today, we released our JetPhoto Studio version 4, that is a new version of ‘09 . Standing at the beginning of a new year, just think a bit more. From version 1 to version 4, geotagging (photo locating) is always a key feature in the software. There is a story about our idea and ideal.

Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative (www.ecai.org) brings a specific software named TimeMap, that is mainly designed for academic concerns, but also gave me the original ideas about geo-tagging. Actually, we began to think of the prototype of a software that can organize photos with GPS and easy digital mapping just after joining an ECAI conference in 2003.

That was in 2003, we named our prototype as NeverForget. And a first design of NeverForget was made on my iBook with Mac OS 10.2 (see below).The original idea was making a ‘professional’ digital assets management software that manages photo metadata with a MySQL database and renders maps for photo locating with a GIS engine.

But disappointed us that we didn’t find any satisfying GIS engine works on Mac. Of course, then we had never known Google’s incredible adventures with Google Maps and Google Earth.

After that, we decided to switch to JetPhoto, a lightweight solution soon. And new software still inherited some key design from NeverForget, such as a Map view, a Calendar view and a Thumbnail view. The earliest development of JetPhoto began in 2004.

Maybe we had already believed the big change we need when the project was just beginning. Step by step, that was happened in the rest years. We did see Google Maps gives us an amazing digital earth, and new SiRF hi-sensitive GPS chips enable easy locating in more places on our planet. At the same time, geo-tag, a new word was invented by a Flickr community (at least my first time to hear that is there).

Now, as a software designer and a user, I enjoy JetPhoto, that integrates Google Maps, Google Earth, WMS (Web Mapping Service), NASA Earth image, Wikipedia reverse geocoding all in one photo geo-tagging software.

To me, that is a quite lovely way to play my traveling photos and share my never-forget journey experiences with friends.

Dual-mode Calendar

With the new calendar in JPServerPro home page, users can list albums and search photos by date. New calendar has two browsing modes: albums browsing mode and photos browsing mode.

Selected the left button (album button), all cells of the dates when you published albums are highlighted. And selected the right button (camera button), all cells of the dates when you took photos are highlighted. Click the highlighted cell, the date-matched albums or photos will show in this page.

Cover Flow

Now we are also developing a new Cover Flow view to list albums in JPServerPro home page. This feature will be added into JetPhoto Server Pro version 2.1.

1. If you are a JetPhoto Studio Windows user, now you need to download a JetPhoto Studio v3.13 for testing JetPhoto Server Pro 2.

2. JetPhoto Server Pro 2 is NOT 100% compatible with JetPhoto Server 1.3. We name this software as PRO, just means there is apparent architecture difference between version 2.0 and version 1.3 . We always suggest you should install JetPhoto Server Pro 2 in a new path on your server for testing first, please never update from your JetPhoto Server 1.3 directly.

3. JetPhoto Server Pro 2 is a BETA software so far, the installation and configuration instructions is not very detailed. But you can find a clear explanation in README file saved in JetPhoto Server Pro 2 package.

The problem on IE7: Failed to show GMap Gallery locally.

Received a couple of feedbacks reports that GMap Gallery shows incorrectly in IE7. This problem is happened only when open GMap Gallery pages locally. You saw a blank window that always shows a loading progress bar, and prompts an error message “Access is denied” if click the warning icon at the bottom-left corner in browser window. But, when you put the files to web server, never see this error.

GMap Gallery generated by JetPhoto Studio saves geotagging data and gps tracks in two separated XML files gmap.kml and tracks.gpx. The file index.html uses javascript function GDownloadURL() to load these two xml files while opening GMap Gallery page. However, IE7 doesn’t permit pages to access local xml files with default settings. ( go here for a detailed technical discussion.)

So, if you’d like to preview your GMap Gallery pages with IE7 on your local desktop computer, you may have to change a setting in your IE7 options.

Go into the Tools menu
Then Internet Options
Click on the Advanced tab
Find “Enable native XMLHTTP support”
(towards the bottom of the list)
Unselect this option.

Wikipedia integration added in new JetPhoto Studio

Now JetPhoto Studio v3.0 for Mac is ready! Wikipedia integration is a new feature I recommend strongly. When you located your photos, JetPhoto will give you a map to show the photo location and also a text box enclosed with your photo. JetPhoto will find all Wikipedia articles that are near your photo by the location automatically, and lists them in this text box. You can also know the distance and direction from your photo place to the Wikipedia article place. With clicking a Wikipedia article item, JetPhoto will launch a web browser window to show the detail Wikipedia page.

JetPhoto Studio v3.0 is a major updated version on Mac. Many new features are added:

- New Start Panel to create or open albums
- Searching photos by location (details)
- A new time offset calculator for photo geotagging
- Wikipedia integration for located photos
- New WebSync interface for JetPhoto Server Pro v2.0 (details)
- Setting JPEG quality for edited or resized photos, see Preferences window.

The weather is getting warm in Shanghai. This recent winter is unforgettable. We met the heavy snow that is the largest snowfall people has never seen in this city over the past 100 years! Now the season brings peach blossoms and cherry blossoms returning again. Really we were busy in those cold days, but it’s a kind of happy things to type lines of programs with my MacBook in our warm office. And a new guy joined us, Zhuwei is our web programmer who writes Flash ActionScript and JavaScript programs for JetPhoto now.

JetPhoto Server Pro v2.0

We spent three months on JetPhoto Server (Demo) redesigning. The new version is named as JetPhoto Server Pro version 2.0 . We expect to open this version as soon as possible, a plan is that we can finish all left developing before May.Of course, many new features are added into JetPhoto Server Pro v2.0:
- Access control for multipe editors and visitors.
- Layered categories and keywords.
- New Lightbox and Flash album templates.
- New page layout, added side menu, calendar and more.
- KML feed and Goolge Map Gallery for whole site and specified albums.
- Comments for albums, pages and files.
- Pages publishing to post your text/html contents on web.
- Files publishing to post your video, document or any media files on web.
- Flash video player.- Panorama image viewer.
- Hi-resolution image viewer with an embedded magnifier.
- More options to customize website page layout.
- New web-based Website Manager. (See Screenshot)
- New WebSync interface that doesn’t need FTP.
- MySQL storage that enables fast searching and better performance.

For this new server, we also upgraded our WebSync program in JetPhoto Studio. The new WebSync never uses FTP connection to upload files. See the screenshot as below, new WebSync is very easy to use. And one JetPhoto Server can also allow several editors to publish their web albums with different accounts.

However, the important work that we haven’t finish is localization. Thanks so much for mcc who lives in Paris. A French translation is now available mostly, and we hope more language versions will be presented with the first final release, that should contain German, French, Chinese, Japanese and English at least.Also, http://www.robinzhang.com/jpserver/ , there is a early demo to show our ongoing development for JetPhoto Server Pro v2.0 . What’s new in 2008? (1)

It’s already the third year since we designed the first version of JetPhoto. Although we have never stopped to think how to enhance our software design for the future, GPS/GeoTagging and Web publishing will still be the key points of the new development in 2008.

Here let me introduce some new designing for the enhanced GPS/GeoTagging features in JetPhoto Studio, these features are available in JetPhoto Studio for Windows 3.12 and a coming Mac version.

GobalSat GPS Logger Supports
New GPS Log Manager supports GPS tracks downloading from GobalSat DG100/BT335. New program will also split tracks by time automatically.

Search Photos by Location
Allows to search photos by location in Global Search. Besides searching photos by keyword or capture time, now you can also search photos by location. Just need to click button ‘Locate on Map’ and change Radius in search condition options, you can find out the photos saved in all albums that are taken in a specified place quickly and properly.

Locate Multiple Photos on Map
Allows to locate multiple photos in batches on maps. If you’d like to locate couples of photos as a same position, now you can just multi-select these photo thumbnails, and point photo locations on map.

A New Time Offset Calculator
To locate photos automatically is by matching with time-synchronized GPS tracks. So the capture time of photos must be correct and accurate to locate them with GPS. JetPhoto Studio provides a method to calibrate photo capture time to match GPS time accurately. You could find a menu item in Calendar extra panel, click the Gear button to choose ‘Correct Capture Time’ in the pull-down menu. A time offset calculator will appear as soon as click ‘How to calculate…’ in Capture Time Corrector window. That will calculate the time difference between photo capture time (camera time) and standard time (GPS time).

The most development of JetPhoto Studio Mac version 2.9 is done. The key new feature of this version is image editing, and also updated Flash gallery making and GPS track importing.

Image Editing Now you only need to click the button pointed in above figure. The Editing panel will appear in the extra drawer of album window, in which you could select Cropping, Adjusting, Enhancing and giveing Black & White or Sepia effect to your photos.

Flash Gallery Making Now you can customize the linker label in the generated Flash gallery with JetPhoto Studio Pro. The new added label will hold the space showing ‘Powered by JetPhoto’ in the free version. Click the label, a specified web page will appear in the web broser. And, the specified page can be the home or about page of your online gallery.

GPS Geotagging New version JetPhoto Studio supports importing Magellan SD track files.

A quick demo of image editing

With JetPhoto Studio Mac 2.9 and Windows 3.x , user can fix his or her photos easily and quickly. here I just made a quick demo to show the image editing features.

Auto Image Enhancing, adjust the brightness and contrast for the photo automatically. Even if the original photo was taken under incorrect exposure, here only one-click is needed to enhance picture quality shortly (also see above sample pictures). The effect is completely same as that taken by Auto Contrast in PhotoShop.

Here is a demo showing how to fix the White Balance for a photo. The original photo was taken under the sunset lights, the sky color looks too warm (yellow). With the color/brightness adjustment of the Yellow-Blue channel, the blue sky returned immediately.
User can also manually adjust photo brightness and contrast with this tool.

The cropping tool of JetPhoto Studio is quite easy to use, crops photos by specifying an aspect ratio to fit 6×4″ print, 7×5″ print, VGA screen, DVD wide screen or others.

JetPhoto Server 1.2 update

Actually, we haven’t updated JetPhoto Server†since early last year. So just made a new version 1.2 that improves some functionalities, and now you can install JetPhoto Server on any PHP5 server using default configuration easily.

What’s new in JetPhoto Server version 1.2 ?

- Optimized the supports for PHP5, register_long_arrays setting is not required.
- Updated Flash and other templates.
- Updated Google Maps integration.
- Fixed some bugs.

Also, important, now we did decide to†develop a new major version of JetPhoto Server as soon as possible.

A known issue - Flash preview on Mac

Do you see a white screen while previewing the generated ‘Standalone Flash’ movie?

The QuickTime v7.1 disabled to playback SWF Flash movie, and the SWF preview program of JetPhoto Studio is based on QuickTime, so you saw this incorrect Flash playback.

However the generated SWF file is ok, it can still be opened properly with Adobe Flash Player, Safari, FireFox etc.

Now, to fix this problem on your Mac, you just need go to your System Preferences, and click QuickTime item, select Advanced tab, and then check Enable Flash option.

A known issue about number format in Europe

If you are using a JetPhoto Studio on a Windows with French, German or other European languages. For running JetPhoto software properly, you should check your Regional and Language control panel of your Windows XP.

The ‘Decimal Symbol’ must be set as ‘dot’. However the default setting is usually ‘comma’ for French, German and many other language regions.

Please launch applet ‘Regional and Language Options’ in your Windows control panel, select ‘Regional Options’ tab, click button ‘Customize…’ to change ‘Decimal Symbol’ setting, replace ‘comma’ with ‘dot’.

We apologize for the inconvenience has caused due to the problem of our software design. However we’ll fixed the problem completely in the new version soon, removing the software dependence on the Windows settings.

Ready to open plugin SDK

JetPhoto is ready to open the SDK for 3rd-party plugin development. Now JetPhoto Studio is a free digital photo organizing platform that provides routines to store, manage, process and retouch photos. The plugins work on this platform, contains:

- Importer plugin that enables importing digital photos from a given device.
- Publisher plugin that enables uploading photos or albums to a given website.

JetPhoto Studio SDK is offered for third-party camera/GPS hardware vendors and third-party Internet service providers, such as web album hosting. For either commercial or non-commercial purpose, JetPhoto Studio SDK is always FREE. The SDK package contains:

- Publisher plugin interface specification
- Importer plugin interface specification
- Sample source of Flickr publisher plugin
- Sample source of TWAIN importer plugin
- JPFreeImage image processing engine

Fixed A Website Manager Bug

Bug specific:
The software hangs when connecting to a server to manage it with Website Manager in JetPhoto Studio 3.5.1 or earlier versions.

This problem was caused by a compatibility problem of a windows socket DLL that is provided by Microsoft, we added a patch in this new installation package.

Fixed A Time Zone Problem

A New Zealand user reported a bug, said, the time zone GMT+13:00 is not listed to be selected when matching photos with GPS tracks. GMT + 13 hours is the daylight saving time of New Zealand. Now just fixed this bug, added a daylight option for each time zone.

More Language Localizations, We Need Your Contribution!

Thanks for KMi, he helps JetPhoto to finish a French localization before.

As our planned task, besides English and Chinese, we’d like to have more language supports in JetPhoto Studio Mac/Windows and JetPhoto Server. In the latest JetPhoto Studio Windows version, our software designing reserves a space to hold French and German localization data to translate software interface into these languages.

The method is very easy, if you want to translate JetPhoto Studio Windows version to German, please do steps as below:

1. go to the folder where JetPhoto Studio is installed, example C:\Program Files\JetPhoto Studio\ . You will find a subfolder named Resources, and open it.

2. copy file Localizable.ini in subfolder English to subfolder German, and overwrite the old one in subfolder German.

3. open file Localizable.ini with any text editor, and translate each item one by one.

Note: there is one exception. when you translate item LanguageName, you should keep it as LanguageName = German, can’t be as LanguageName = Deutsch.

4. now test the translated interface, please open JetPhoto Studio, click menu item Edit->Options, open dialog box Options, set lanugage as Deutsch.

Now, finished!! if you also want to share your translation to other people, you could leave comments here or send email to us. We are pleased to put your translated file to our blog or package it into the standard download of JetPhoto Studio.

The first time when we announced JetPhoto is the spring of 2005, at Macworld Expo, San Francisco. Our original goal is just making a free software to organize and share digital photos…

Gary Flint is a musician, poem translator and my good friend. Three years ago, when he told me his requirement, Gary was designing his new website named MountainSongs.net introducing Chinese ancient poetry to western. An efficient photo software was needed to manage his China traveling photos and publish them onto this website. Gary always said poetry is a kind of entertainment, but I say software development is another kind of entertainment, and photography also! So our JetPhoto development began.

My name is Robin Zhang, a major software designer of JetPhoto. And, Ping Cao is our Flash and UI component designer, Mike Hu is the Mac and Windows application designer, Bing Xuan is the Windows foundation designer, Bob Wang is our JetPhoto Server designer… here is our JetPhoto team, and we all live in Shanghai, China.
